What is the world's most widely spoken language? Yes, it is Mandarin Chinese! With globalization, Mandarin has become even increasingly popular. Many schools in the U.S. have adopted Mandarin as the foreign language of choice. Studying Mandarin Chinese is something that will materially contribute to a child's quality of life in the decades ahead. Oregon Hope Chinese School Mandarin classes make the early language exposure no longer a luxury. Now is the time to learn Chinese. Whether your child understands/speaks some Chinese at home or is a non-Chinese speaker, there is an array of classes at Oregon Hope Chinese School to suit every student's needs.

Oregon Hope Chinese School (OHCS) is an Oregon state and IRS-recognized public benefit nonprofit organization that was founded by a group of professional educators and parents. Our mission is to teach the community about Chinese language (Mandarin, using Pinyin and simplified characters), culture, and heritage, without discriminating based on race, color, religion, or national origin. Children as young as four years old can enroll and learn Chinese. We make it fun and entertaining, as well as educational. OHCS is located in Beaverton at Stroller Middle School, 14141 N.W. Laidlaw Rd., Portland OR 97229. All classes are scheduled on Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

OHCS provides more than twenty different classes, including eight levels of Ma Li-Ping Chinese (for Mandarin speaking students), Chinese immersion (for non-Mandarin speaking students),Adult Chinese Mandarin class (for non-Mandarin speaking adults),,Chinese painting, calligraphy,art,dance,martial art, Go, and adult dance. The high school credit program, SAT II Chinese program and the Chinese Proficiency Test (汉语水平考试) are also available. All instructors are native-Chinese speakers who are also very knowledgeable and experienced educators. Under their instruction, every year OHCS students win awards from the World Wide Chinese Composition Contest.

Parents are an important part of children's education. OHCS relies on volunteer parental involvement to assist with school activities. OHCS always welcomes enthusiastic educators to become faculty members. OHCS sponsors and offers various activities and services for parents and students, such as lectures, free lending of Chinese reading materials, and free Chinese play group for families who have 1-3-year-old children.
